Faculty, students and staff excited with newest addition to the NECE lab

A state-of-the-art Electrical Generation Unit/Trainer was delivered and installed in the lab in August. Manufactured and installed by DarbyTech, the new trainer consists of a pressure boiler, non-condensing steam turbine, alternator, load and control system. A number of features enhance the capability of the trainer to meet learning objectives related to pressure boilers, steam turbine/alternators and controls, and thermodynamics.

In addition boiler and turbine operational controls, combustion reaction chemistry and efficiency calculation training will be improved.

Real world plant situations such as start-ups and shut-downs are now part of the lab experience for NECE students. Through the use of an Emerson Delta V DCS control system, learners will receive industry-grade training in distributive control systems.

Portions of two funding sources (Department of Energy Grant and a North Dakota Workforce Enhancement Grant) were used to design, purchase and install the trainer.

NECE employees are especially grateful for the support to purchase these and other trainers in what is now the premier community college energy-related lab in the country!!
